Geotextile fabric

Geotextile fabric is a permeable layer placed between soil and base stone to stop the two from mixing.

Geotextile fabric is a permeable woven or non-woven layer installed between the native soil and the crushed-stone base of a patio, walkway, or wall. It separates the layers so soft soil does not pump up into the base and compromise compaction, while still allowing water to drain. On clay-heavy Chester County lots it meaningfully extends the life of a base.
