Edge restraint

An edge restraint is the border that locks the perimeter pavers of a patio or walkway in place.

An edge restraint is a rigid border — plastic, aluminum, concrete, or a soldier course of stone — installed along the perimeter of a paver patio or walkway. It holds the outer pavers against lateral movement so the field does not spread and the joints do not open. Edge restraint failure is a common reason paver edges drift and sink.
