Hydrostatic pressure

Hydrostatic pressure is water pressure that builds behind a wall when drainage is inadequate.

Hydrostatic pressure is the force of water that accumulates behind a retaining wall when the soil cannot drain. It is the leading cause of retaining wall failure. Properly installed drainage aggregate and a perforated pipe behind the wall relieve that pressure before it can push the wall out.
